Sony has posted two videos detailing this operation

Curious minds have always liked tinkering with devices and that's why popular products usually get the teardown treatment at some point.

But rarely do we see a tablet being taken apart especially by the very company that made it a reality in the first place.

Well, Sony is one of those device makers that thinks outside the box, so on the SGLN YouTube channel one can now find two videos where we’re being shown the tablet being pulled apart (gently) and then re-assembled back again.

Before starting out to take the thing apart, Sony gives us a quick overview of what the tablet encapsulates and we’re going to be doing the same.

For starters, on the outside the world’s thinnest waterproof tablet looks pretty much like an oversized Xperia Z2 smartphone.

It does arrive with the same IP55/58 dust and water resistance capabilities, but unlike the handheld device it doesn’t have the same advanced camera, as its back shooter is limited to only 8.1MP.

The tablet has a 10.1-inch full HD display offering 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution and draws power from a 2.3GHz Snapdragon processor working in concert with Adreno 330 GPU and fitted with 3GB of RAM. The slate runs Android 4.4 right out of the box, so you won’t have any updating to do.

And now moving on to the juicy, teardown part. The process starts by separating the display and the body apart, which are held together by an adhesive. Once you get this aspect out of the way, you’re free to take a tour of the insides of the tablet.

One thing we get to notice is that, unlike most of the ports found onside of the tablet which have flaps covering them, the headphone jack doesn't enjoy the same treatment.

Nevertheless, this shouldn't be cause of concern since it appears the jack benefits from its own waterproof housing.

Accessing the motherboard is a little bit trickier and everything else needs to be taken out before the central part of the tablet becomes accessible.

If you’re familiar with the teardowns done by iFixit, you might expect to be given a reparability score towards the end of the first video, but this is not the case. Contrary to what iFixit provides, in this video you’ll get to see the Sony person putting back the tablet together like nothing ever happened. Enjoy!
