Starting today, mobile phone users in Canada can reserve the Sony Xperia Z2 flagship handset on the network of wireless carrier Bell for when it becomes available for purchase, on May 5.

The smartphone, made official during the Mobile World congress in Barcelona, Spain, back in February, has already landed in some markets out there, yet Sony had to delay its availability in many countries due to low stock.

Users in Canada, however, will be able to grab it in about two weeks via Bell, and they can now pre-order the device so as to make sure that they are among the first to receive it when it lands on shelves.

Bell’s website is already listing the phone with a price tag of $179.95 (€118) attached to it, with the signing of a two-year contract agreement. However, users will also be able to purchase it contract-free, at $699.95 (€458).

As MobileSyrup notes, the Bell variant of Xperia Z2 will be a carrier-exclusive one, though the handset is also set to arrive in the country unlocked via the Sony Store, also priced at around $699.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Xperia Z2 was unveiled as the latest flagship handset from Sony Mobile, and that it should be able to provide users with an experience in line with that.

The mobile phone features a large 5.2-inch IPS LCD touchscreen display that can deliver a full HD resolution, being powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor.

Moreover, Sony packed the smartphone with 3GB of RAM to ensure increased performance capabilities, as well as with 16GB of internal memory, which can be expanded by up to 128GB of additional storage space, courtesy of a microSD memory card slot.

On the back, the handset sports a 20.7-megapixel camera that is capable of recording videos in 4K resolution, as well as a 2MP front camera for making video calls while on the go.

Sony Xperia Z2 is powered by a 3200mAh battery that can offer up to 19 hours of talk time or up to 7 days of standby time, it measures 146.8 x 73.3 x 8.2 mm and weighs 158 grams.

Moreover, the smartphone arrives at Bell with 4G LTE connectivity, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities, a built-in GPS receiver, NFC, and the usual set of sensors. It runs under the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system, with a great deal of customizations coming from Sony itself loaded on top.
