As expected, Sony has introduced the Xperia Z2 in Singapore thorough all three major carriers: M1, Singtel and Starhub. The flagship smartphone will be available via Sony Stores and Sony Centers, but that will only happen next month.

XperiaBlog reports that Singtel has allowed customers who pre-ordered the Xperia Z2 to pick up their phones since yesterday, even though the official release date is April 5.

However, the other two major carriers, M1 and Starhub, will start selling the smartphone beginning tomorrow and those who purchase the Xperia Z2 will also receive a SmartBand for free.

Singtel customers who pre-order the Xperia Z2 have received a free SmartWatch 2, but the offer is not available anymore as the smartphone is now available for purchase.

Speaking of which, Sony has confirmed that the Xperia Z2 will go on sale at its official Sony Store and Sony Centers for around $1,000 SGD ($790 / €575) outright.

The smartphone will ship with Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system right out of the box, so there’s no need to wait for an update anymore.

It’s also worth mentioning that the Xperia Z2 is IP58 certified, which makes it dust proof and water resistant over 1 meter and 30 minutes. The phone’s display also comes with some rugged features such as shatter proof and scratch-resistant glass.

The 5.2-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display supports full HD (1080p) resolution and packs Sony’s latest TRILUMINOUS and X-Reality Engine technologies.

On the inside, the Xperia Z2 looks like it’s the most powerful smartphone launched by Sony. The device is armed with a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit and no less than 3GB of RAM.

For the time being, this is the only flagship smartphone announced by a major handset manufacturer that comes with such a high amount of RAM.

Another strong point of the Xperia Z2 would be the 20.7-megapixel rear-facing camera, which features autofocus, LED flash, image stabilization and 4K video capture. There’s also a secondary 2.2-megapixel camera in the front, which is perfect for selfies and video calls.

Sony Xperia Z2 comes packed with 16GB of internal memory, but users can further expand storage up to 128GB via microSD card. When it comes to connectivity, the top-tier smartphone offers LTE Cat.4 (150Mbps) and HSPA (42Mbps), along with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC (Near Field Communication).

It looks like Singapore is one of the first countries where Xperia Z2 goes on sale, as the Japanese handset maker was forced to delay the device in several regions due to high demand.
