The smartphone has been postponed for the first week of May

We reported earlier this month that Sony Xperia Z2 might face delays in various countries, but the Japanese company came forward with a few short statements in which it confirmed that the smartphone would arrive in April, but we should expect limited stock.

Well, it looks like the situation is worse than Sony has originally thought given the fact that the company is now announcing various retailers in the UK that it won’t be able to fulfil any Xperia Z2 pre-orders until early May.

This is the second smartphone that gets delayed or will not make it to the UK, after the SIM-free Xperia T2 Ultra has been confirmed not to arrive in April.

GSMArena reports that UK-based retailer Unlocked Mobiles has been contacted by Sony and has told it that the launch of the Xperia Z2 has been postponed for the first week of May.

The information is now reflected in the new pre-order shipping estimates listed on the retailer’s online store. Unlocked Mobiles now offers the Sony Xperia Z2 for £545 (€660 / $905) outright and promises to ship it from May 1.

Those who pre-order the smartphone will also receive a free SRS-BTM8 speaker, digital noise cancelling headphones and free content worth £200 (€240 / $330).

The reasons behind Xperia Z2’s delay in the UK are unknown for the moment, but it looks like Sony will not be able to bring even a limited stock of units in April.

Sony Xperia Z2 is available for pre-order at several carriers and retailers in the UK, but for the time being, only Unlocked Mobiles has been contacted by Sony for the delay of the smartphone.

Vodafone UKL offers a free 32-inch Sony LED TV to the first 3,000 customers who pre-order the Sony Xperia Z2 by April 9. It will be interesting to see whether or not other authorized sellers in the UK will announce Xperia Z2 launch delays in the coming days.

Either way, it looks like Xperia Z2 is the victim of its own success once again, as the smartphone has seen strong demand in most well developed markets.

If rumors are true, then Sony Xperia Z2 will not arrive in some important markets until after Samsung launches its Galaxy S5 flagship smartphone.

Not to mention that another competitor, HTC, will also release its top-tier handsets, the One M8 in mid-April. Hopefully, Sony will be able to bring enough Xperia Z2 stock in all markets that really matter.
