It was initially available for pre-order for £599 (€715 / $995) outright

It looks like Sony has recently removed the pre-order button from most of its regional stores for the Xperia Z2, which is supposed to hit shelves in early April.

The smartphone has been confirmed by many retailers in the UK and other countries where it should arrive in the week commencing April 7.

Customers in countries where no retailer or carrier announced plans to release the Xperia Z2 were able to pre-order the smartphone via Sony’s regional official store.

However, this doesn’t seem to be possible anymore, XperiaBlog reports. At a closer inspection, we’ve noticed that the “pre-order” button has been removed from the site and customers cannot pre-purchase the smartphone, which is still priced at £599 (€715 / $995) outright.

Still, Sony does offer customers who wish to pre-order the Xperia Z2 options. For example, the Sony UK webstore includes a link to Vodafone UK, where potential customers can grab the smartphone for free on select plans.

The SIM-free Xperia Z2 however does not have any alternative purchase links, so we must assume that Sony cannot fulfill any orders received on its official stores for the unlocked version of the smartphone.

As XperiaBlog points out, all the pre-order bonuses that were offered by Sony on its official stores have been removed as well. UK-based retailers that have previously announced similar deals for the Xperia Z2 pre-orders have kept their bonus offers on their online store.

Perhaps Sony has yet to announce these retailers that the Xperia Z2 will be delayed or the Japanese company simply prefers to let third-party resellers handle the entire distribution of the high-end smartphone.

Sony’s flagship smartphone has been confirmed to arrive with Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system out of the box and one of the best displays manufactured by the Japanese company.

The 5.2-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display features Sony’s TRILUMINOUS and X-Reality Engine technologies and provides full HD (1080p) resolution, along with 424ppi (pixel density).

The Xperia Z2 has a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, which is a slight improvement from the previous Xperia Z1 model, which features a 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU.

Following the recent trend in the smartphone business, Sony Xperia Z2 is IP58 certified as dustproof and water resistant. It also comes with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 64GB).

Sony has announced that the Xperia Z2 will be available in black and white colors at launch, but other options may be added later on. We will keep an eye out for more details on the possible delay of the unlocked version of Sony Xperia Z2, so stay tuned.
