Xperia Z2, the latest flagship Android-based handset from Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile, might be launched in India on May 15, the latest reports on the matter suggest.

The mobile phone was expected to arrive on shelves in the country a while ago, but Sony has pushed back its release due to a series of stock issues.

No official confirmation on the availability of the device in India has been provided as of now, yet a recent tweet from DooMLoRD claims that the phone will be officially launched in the country in mid-May.

Moreover, he also claims that the new device will become available for purchase there one week later, and that it might feature a price tag of Rs. 48,000 ($787/€568). Currently, the handset can be seen listed at retailers in India for much more than that.

In fact, Sony has also added the smartphone to its Sony Store portal in India, though it only lists it with a coming-soon tag, with no specific details on availability and pricing attached.

What we do know for sure, however, is the fact that Sony plans on releasing the device in this country in all three color versions it was announced with, including Black, Purple and White.

Sony Xperia Z2 was unveiled to the world in February during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, and has already arrived on the market in some countries out there.

The flagship device comes up with a 5.2-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a full HD resolution, featuring TRILUMINOS Display for mobile and X-Reality for mobile picture engine.

Moreover, the smartphone arrives on shelves with a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 MSM8974AB processor packed inside, as well as with 3GB of RAM for great performance capabilities.

Xperia Z2 was also announced with 16GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes, and a 3200mAh battery that can deliver up to 19 hours of talk time, or up to 740 hours of standby time.

On the back, the handset packs a 20.7-megapixel camera with 4K video recording capabilities, paired with a 2MP front camera for video calling. Xperia Z2 is also IP55 and IP58 certified for dust and water resistance.

Moreover, the mobile phone includes 4G LTE connectivity inside, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities, NFC, and GPS receiver with aGPS, along with the usual set of sensors. Xperia Z2 runs under Android 4.4.2 KitKat, with Sony’s own set of customizations and exclusive applications loaded on top.
