Sony Xperia Z2 Coming to the US This “Summer,” Xperia Z1 Compact Not Scheduled for Release

It looks like Sony doesn't plan on taking on the smartphone market in the United States, as it did last year with its Xperia Z1 and other devices in the same series.

According to TechCrunch, the Japanese company has confirmed that the Xperia Z2 will not be available for purchase in the United States for several months at least and when it arrives, it will only be available through Sony Online Store.

Sony Mobile has also confirmed that talks on the release of the Xperia Z2 through various carriers are still ongoing and nothing is certain at this moment.

Even if carriers agree to sell Sony's Xperia Z2, the flagship smartphone will not be available until this “summer.” As it's a great device, the Xperia Z2 was met with high demand in all countries where it was put on pre-order and for unknown reasons, Sony wasn't not able to fulfill all these orders.

This is one of the reasons that the handset maker had to delay the launch of the Xperia Z2 for a few weeks or even months in various countries where it previously confirmed a release date.

Unfortunately, there's no telling how well the Xperia Z2 will sell when it gets released later this summer, given the fact that its main competitors, Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One (M8), are already available on the market.

However, Sony confirmed last year that it would not focus on the US market, so the Xperia Z2 will probably be one of the few smartphones in the 2014 lineup that will hit shelves in the country.

Apparently, the Japanese handset maker does not really care about sales of Xperia Z2 in the United States, especially that for the time being, it has only confirmed its availability through its online store.

In the same piece of news, Sony Xperia Z2 will still be available for purchase in North America beginning May, just not in the United States. The Japanese company has confirmed that the smartphone will go on sale in Canada next month.
