On Wednesday, Japanese wireless carrier NTT DoCoMo officially announced the upcoming availability of the Sony Xperia Z2 smartphone on its network, starting May 21.

The new device was made official in the country with model number SO-03F attached to it and should feature all the specs and capabilities that it was unveiled with in February, during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Sony Mobile launched the Xperia Z2 as its newest flagship Android-based smartphone, packing it with hardware that make it be worth that name.

The smartphone comes to the market with a 5.2-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution, a TRILUMINOS Display for mobile with X-Reality for mobile picture engine.

Moreover, the smartphone is powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 MSM8974AB processor, paired with 3GB of RAM, which will ensure great performance capabilities at all times.

At the same time, the Sony Xperia Z2 features 16GB of internal memory, complemented by a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 128GB of additional storage space.

One of the main selling points of the new handset, however, is its 20.7-megapixel rear-facing camera with Exmor RS for mobile image sensor, which is capable of offering 4K video capture capabilities.

Sony also included a 2.2MP camera on the front of the smartphone, so that users could easily make video calls while on the go.

Sony Xperia Z2 also arrives on shelves with support for 4G LTE networks, as well as with the usual Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity capabilities, alongside NFC and USB High speed 2.0 and Micro USB support.

The smartphone comes with a built-in GPS receiver for navigation purposes, as well as with the entire range of usual sensors inside, and with 3D surround sound and the xLoud Experience audio filter technology from Sony.

Xperia Z2 runs under the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system right from the start but also features a great deal of customizations and exclusive applications coming from Sony itself, such as “WALKMAN” application, STAMINA mode, and support for the Sony Entertainment Network.

Users in Japan interested in learning more on NTT DoCoMo’s Xperia Z2 can already find it listed on the carrier’s website. Moreover, they can now pre-order the smartphone, so as to make sure that they are able to grab it when it is put up for sale next week.
