Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile is getting ready to release a new software update for the Sony Xperia Z1s smartphone, and a new firmware version for the device has already received approvals, it seems.

The new software was spotted online at PTCRB with build number 14.4.B.0.20 attached to it, yet no specific info on what it might have to offer in terms of new features has been provided as of now.

However, as XperiaBlog notes, the new firmware might actually bring along the long-expected Android 4.4 KitKat operating system upgrade to the handset.

Previously, firmware version 14.3.D.0.183 received certification for the device, and the new build number clearly shows that a major update might be coming to it.

The owners of Sony Xperia Z1s (C6916) handsets on the network of T-Mobile have been long waiting for the Android KitKat platform to arrive on their devices, yet no official confirmation on it has been provided for the moment.

Still, it appears that things might be finally moving in the right direction, and that a formal announcement on the availability of this firmware refresh could arrive very soon, so keep an eye on this space for additional details on the matter.
