Japanese carrier NTT Docomo has just confirmed that it will offer the Xperia Z1 f, also known as Xperia Z1 mini. The smartphone will be available for purchase through the carrier’s official retail channels beginning December 2013.

No word on pricing options yet, but we can safely assume that it will be cheaper than the Xperia Z1. Sony Xperia Z1 f is part of NTT Docomo’s 2013 winter / 2014 sprint lineup, but we expect it to go on sale in other countries as well.

Sony Xperia Z1 f will ship with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, but we expect the Japanese handset maker to offer at least one major upgrade soon after it gets released.

Hardware-wise, the smaller version of Sony Xperia Z1 comes with an equally powerful quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2 GHz. It also packs an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory.

Users will also be able to further expand storage up to 32GB via microSD memory card. On the back, the Xperia Z1 f boasts an enhanced 20.7-megapixel photo snapper with BSI, autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, while in the front, there’s a secondary 2.2-megapixel camera for video calls.

According to NTT Docomo, customers who wish to purchase the Xperia Z1 f will be able to choose from four color options: Black, White, Pink and Lime.

The handset also sports a more than decent 4.3-inch Triluminous capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution.

Other highlights of the Sony Xperia Z1 f include NFC (Near Field Communication), Wi-Fi and LTE support, as well as 2300 mAh that has yet to be rated by the manufacturer. It’s also worth mentioning that the phone is both water and dust proof.
