Last week, Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile officially announced a new flagship Android-based smartphone, namely the Xperia Z1, and the device is already available for pre-order in the UK via wireless carrier EE.

The operator is currently listing both the black and the white flavors of the handset on its website, with a price tag of £9.99 ($15.6 / €12) attached to it, on monthly plans that start at £46 ($72 / €54.6).

Users will be able to enjoy the smartphone on the EE 4G network, as well as on T-Mobile and Orange, the carrier announced.

Furthermore, the Xperia Z1 is available bundled with the Sony SmartWatch 2, which was announced at IFA as well. Priced at £149.99 ($234 / €178), the smartwatch is available for free to all those who will grab the smartphone.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the Xperia Z1 was announced with a large 5-inch full HD touchscreen display, as well as with a Snapdragon 800 processor packed inside, paired with 2GB of RAM.

The handset also sports 16GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, LTE, a 3000mAh battery, and a waterproof design.

“Water resistant smartphones. At long last. Answer the phone fresh from the bath. Dance and talk in the rain, if you will. The Z1 is built to handle it, and the power is phenomenal,” EE notes on its website.

“Films, songs, books, emails – however much you’ve got on, the quad-core processor does not slow down. And thanks to Battery Stamina Mode, make all the home videos you want without running out of juice.”

Xperia Z1 also sports a 20.7-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with 1/2.3" Exmor RS sensor and Sony G Lens, as well as a front camera for making video calls.

Running under Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, the handset also comes with a series of exclusive apps from Sony, such as Social Live, which brings Facebook updates to the device in real time, and also enables users to chat with their friends easily.
