Sony Mobile has just kicked off Xperia Z1 Compact sales in Malaysia. The smartphone has been recently launched in Australia and now the Japanese company has announced that customers in Malaysia can purchase the Xperia Z1 Compact as well.

As XperiaBlog points out, this is the second Sony smartphone launched in Malaysia in the last few days, after the Xperia E1 dual made its debut in the country for RM 499 ($150 / €110) outright.

Customers who wish to grab the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact will have to come up with RM 1,699 ($520 / €370) upfront, which is a great deal for what the smartphone has to offer.

The Xperia Z1 Compact rocks a powerful 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, which is complemented by an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

The smartphone comes with 16GB of internal memory which should be enough for the average Android user, but just in case, Sony also throws in microSD card slot so that users can add more storage (up to 64GB).

When it comes to software, Sony Xperia Z1 Compact has been confirmed to ship with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, but the Japanese company has just announced that an upgrade to KitKat is now rolling out worldwide.

It will probably take some time to reach Malaysia, but at least you can be sure that you will eventually receive the latest version of Android.

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact is aimed at Android users who are looking for a sturdy device, which is why it’s got an IP58 certification for dust and water protection.

The phone’s 4.3-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display supports HD (720p) resolution and features shatter proof and scratch-resistant glass coating for extra protection. It’s also been embedded with Sony’s TRILUMINOUS and X-Reality Engine technologies.

On the other hand, the Xperia E1 dual is a budget-friendly smartphone that targets people who prefer dual-SIM devices. Aside from that, the device offers quite a lot of decent features.

It sports a 4-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 800 pixels resolution, as well as a not so good 3-megapixel camera.

The phone is powered by a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor clocked at 1.2GHz and packs only 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory.

Just like the Xperia Z1 Compact, the Xperia E1 dual runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean platform onboard, but this one has yet to be confirmed for a KitKat upgrade.
