Unveiled earlier this year at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2014 trade fair, Sony Xperia Z1 Compact has been available for purchase in lots of countries since January.

However, Australia has been skipped from the initial launch for unknown reasons. Anyway, the good news is that Sony has finally decided to bring the Xperia Z1 Compact to Australia, so Sony fans will be able to pick this one up in the coming weeks.

We reported early last month that major retailer Mobicity started to take pre-orders for the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, which was available for $730 (€475) off contract.

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact arrived in stock at Mobicity in mid-February and now it is available for purchase for $650 (€425), but those who cannot afford the smartphone’s outright price may want to take Telstra’s offer into consideration.

Keep in mind that Sony Xperia Z1 Compact will be exclusively available in Australia via Telstra, so no other carriers will offer the handset until later on.

The folks over at AusDroid report that Telstra has just kicked off pre-orders for the Xperia Z1 Compact, so potential customers can get it for free on select plans.

The bad news is that the carrier has yet to announce when exactly the smartphone will arrive in stock and what the upfront price for the Xperia Z1 Compact is.

If Telstra decides to price it over $650 (€425), it might not be such a good deal after all considering that Mobicity offers a better deal on the device.

Despite the fact that Sony has announced that the Xperia Z1 Compact will be available at Telstra sometime in April, Telstra reps claim that the smartphone will be available for purchase beginning March 18.

However, Telstra currently runs a promotional offer on Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, which suggests that the device will actually be released in April. The Australian carrier has confirmed that each Sony Xperia Z1 Compact pre-order on selected plans will include a free Bluetooth headset.

The catch is that the promotional offer ends on March 31, which means that the smartphone might effectively go on sale the next day, April 1.

Anyway, those who wish to pre-order the Xperia Z1 Compact via Telstra can do so for free on select plans. The smartphone is available in Pink, Black and White.

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact will ship with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, but the Japanese company has confirmed that the smartphone will receive an Android 4.4.2 KitKat upgrade in the coming weeks.
