We reported a few days ago that Sony planned to bring the Xperia Z1 Compact in India very soon, but no release date was available at that time.

Luckily, it only took the Japanese company a few days to make the smartphone available for purchase. As fonearena points out, Sony has yet to officially introduce the Xperia Z1 Compact in India, but customers can already buy the handset.

Those who can afford the Xperia Z1 Compact will be able to get it beginning today for no less than Rs 36,990 outright, which is about $595 or €430.

Before getting rid of such a high amount of cash, Android enthusiasts should know that the Xperia Z1 Compact does not feature a tempered glass back cover like the Xperia Z1. The back side of the former is made of pure plastic.

It's also worth mentioning that Sony Xperia Z1 Compact comes with two different display panels, one made by Japan Display Inc. and the other one provided by AU Optronics.

It appears that displays made by the latter have some issues with viewing angles, so it would be recommended to grab Xperia Z1 Compact units featuring JDI display panels.

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact ships with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, but the Japanese handset maker has confirmed that a KitKat upgrade will be available in the coming months.

On the inside, the smartphone comes equipped with a 2.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

It also features 16GB of storage inside, which can be further expanded up to 64GB via microSD memory card. On the back, the Xperia Z1 Compact boasts an impressive 20.7-megapixel photo snapper with Exmos RS sensor, autofocus, HDR, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.

The Xperia Z1 Compact is IP55 / IP58 certified for dust and water resistance. It also sports a 4.3-inch TRILUMINOUS display with X-Reality for Mobiles technology and scratch-resistant glass.
