14 DAY TRIAL // Soon after the official unveiling of the new Sony Xperia Z1 Compact smartphone, wireless carriers around the world announced their interest in the device, and Telstra is one of them.
The operator plans on bringing the new device to its network in Australia, and it has already confirmed plans on the matter, allowing customers to register their interest in the device through its website.
Sony Xperia Z1 Compact will be available for users in Australia starting with April this year, fully compatible with Telstra’s 4G network, the company unveiled.
For those out of the loop, we should note that Xperia Z1 Compact comes with the same high-end capabilities as the Sony Xperia Z1, but in a smaller body.
The handset was made official with a 4.3-inch 720p touchscreen display with TRILUMINOUS technology and X-Reality for mobile. Just as previously rumored, the mobile phone features a 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, paired with 2GB of RAM and with an Adreno 330 GPU.
On the back, the new smartphone features a 20.7-megapixel camera, the same as the Xperia Z1, capable of recording videos in full HD resolution, complemented by a 2MP front camera for making video calls.
The new device was announced with 16GB of internal memory, as well as with a microSD memory card slot that can support memory cards of up to 64GB.
On the connectivity side, the new Xperia Z1 Compact features support for 4G LTE networks, as well as the usual Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities, NFC, and built-in GPS receiver.
The same as its larger counterpart, Xperia Z1 Compact is both dust and waterproof, packing IPX5 and IPX8 certification. The handset runs under Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, but might be upgraded to Android 4.4 KitKat before release.
“The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact offers all the features of the Xperia Z1, just in a smaller, stylish handset, which fits nicely in your pocket,” Telstra notes in a blog post.
“It’s waterproof (up to 1.5 meters [4.92 feet] of freshwater for 30 minutes), dust-resistant, it has the same incredibly sharp 20.7MP camera and a crystal clear 4.3 inch screen.”
