Sony India teased an official announcement for March 6 and everyone assumed the Japanese company will launch the Xperia Z.

Well, it looks like the information was correct as AndroidOS reports Sony has just introduced the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL in India.

Both smartphones will go on sale this month, though we only know Xperia Z will hit shelves on March 12. The other Sony phone launched in India, the Xperia ZL is expected to arrive in the country later this month.

Aside from the official announcement containing details on the phones’ specs, Sony also stated that the Xperia Z would be available along with some bundled offers.

In this regard, it appears that customers who purchase the Xperia Z will receive 8GB of free data from Vodafone for 2 months.

In addition, all Xperia Z buyers will get free usage of Sony jive music streaming LIV video streaming applications for the next 6 months.

The smartphones are very similar when it comes to specs, but there are some differences which translate in different pricing as well.

Sony Xperia Z will be available for purchase for a suggested retail price of Rs 38,990, which is about $715 or €545, while the Xperia ZL will cost Rs 35,990 ($660/€505) outright.

It is worth mentioning that both Xperia phones will ship with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, but Sony confirmed it would offer an Android 4.2 upgrade soon after launch. Sadly, no clear timeframe for the availability of the update is available now.

The Xperia Z is dust and water resistant unlike the Xperia ZL, which on the other hand comes with a slightly better battery and IR connectivity.

On the inside, both devices are equipped with a 1.5 GHz quad-core processors, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 64GB).
