Strong sales might drive the company among top three handset makers

The best Android smartphone launched by Sony, the Xperia Z seems to sell very well in most markets where the device has been introduced.

According to Digitimes, all shipments aimed at markets such as France, Germany, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan were fully booked before they even reached their targets.

Sources close to the matter claim the first Xperia Z shipments for these countries were barely enough to cover all pre-orders made by Sony fans.

Although the number of units sold before they were actually put on sale, the Japanese company confirmed several days ago plans to ship no less than 50 million smartphones this year. That’s 16 million more smartphones shipped than the previous year.

Even though Sony is expecting most of its revenue to come from Android smartphones, the company has already announced it has signed an agreement with Mozilla for the release of Firefox OS-based handsets.

Moreover, Sony already released an experimental Firefox OS build for Xperia E and rumor has it that the smartphone will be launched in India in the coming months.

Anyway, strong sales of Xperia Z will make Sony’s wish come true as the Japanese company announced earlier this year plans to become one of top three handset makers.

The Xperia Z has yet to be released on some countries, so it will be interesting to see if Sony can keep up with the high demand for its Android flagship smartphone.

All in all, Sony Xperia Z is a solid device featuring a stunning 5-inch Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 full HD (1080p) display and a powerful 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, accompanied by 2GB of RAM.

In addition, the smartphone boasts an impressive 13.1-megapixel rear photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, as well as a secondary 2.2-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls.
