The Sony Xperia Z has finally arrived in Australia. The smartphone is now available for purchase at Optus, but it will go on sale at other carriers pretty soon.

As AusDroid points out, Optus is now offering the Xperia Z for free on select plans. The phone is available online, as well as in brick and mortar stores and other official sale channels. Check it out here.

Sony’s flagship smartphone is reportedly selling very well in all countries where it got launched, as many carriers and retailers claim they have already sold their stocks before the phone hit shelves.

Given the increased hype around the smartphone, it won’t come as a surprise if the Australian Xperia Z is out of stock in no time.

The Xperia Z is one of the sturdiest smartphones launched by Sony. The device features IP57 certification, which means it is dust and water resistant (up to 1 meter and 30 minutes).

It’s also one of the lightest 5.0-inch handsets available on the market at only 146g (battery included). Thus, the phone’s Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 display supports full HD (1080p) resolution and features shatter proof and scratch-resistant glass coating.

Hardware-wise, Sony Xperia Z is powerful enough thanks to its 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, accompanied by an Adreno 320 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

On the inside, the smartphone packs 16GB of storage that can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

Another strong point of the phone is the 13.1-megapixel rear photo snapper, which features autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.

Last but not least, the Xperia Z is powered by Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, but Sony has stated that an Android 4.2 upgrade will be available soon after launch.
