A Sony rep made an error regarding the phone's availability

Unveiled several days ago at Consumer Electronics Show 2013 (CES), Sony Xperia Z is expected to make its debut on the market next month.

Several European carriers already announced the upcoming availability of the Xperia Z, but no details on the phone's exact release date are available for the moment.

Along with the Xperia Z, Sony Mobile launched the Xperia ZL which will be available for purchase only in select market.

The Japanese handset maker confirmed the Xperia ZL will be released in Canada, but did not disclose any additional details.

However, it appears that a Sony representative got it wrong and confirmed that both Xperia Z and Xperia ZL will be making their debut in Canada, even though the company sated in the initiall announcement that only the latter will be launched in this market.

Well, it looks like the folks over at MobileSyrup have reached out to Sony Mobile Canada for clarifications.

The reply received by the cited source clears any doubts that the Sony Xperia Z might hit shelves in Canada. Read below Sony's statement regarding its Xperia Z and Xperia ZL availability in Canada:

“Everyone is really excited about the week we’ve had at CES. A global representative made an error regarding Canadian product availability.

At this time we can confirm that Canadians will be receiving the Xperia ZL as previously announced, but we have nothing to announce about the Xperia Z availability in Canada at this time. We will share more news on future products as they are confirmed.”

Although we should not rule out the possibility of Xperia Z arriving in Canada at some point this year, it's pretty clear that for the time being Sony Mobile does not have any plans on launching this device in this country. Stay tuned for more info on the subject.
