We reported last week that Sony planned to launch the Xperia UL and now it looks like the Japanese handset maker has made it official.

However, Sony Xperia UL will only be available in Japan beginning May 25. According to the company, the smartphone will go on sale at KDDI carrier in White, Black and Pink colors.

So far, Sony Mobile has not unveiled any details on the possible release of Xperia UL in other countries, so for the time being, only Android enthusiasts in Japan can get this high-end smartphone.

As expected, the Xperia UL’s selling point is the stunning 5-inch Sony BRAVIA Engine 2 capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080 x 1920 pixels) resolution.

There’s no word on the price yet, but we will know more once the Xperia UL goes on sale this weekend. This is the second Sony smartphone announced in the past few weeks, after the handset maker confirmed that the Xperia A would be released in Japan via NTT Docomo.

Just like the Xperia Z, Sony Xperia UL will ship with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box.

It also packs a powerful 1.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, which is complemented by an Adreno 320 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

On the inside, the smartphone features 16GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 64GB via microSD memory card.

The Xperia UL boasts an impressive 13.1-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording. There’s also a secondary VGA front-facing camera for video calls.

The phone drains energy from a 2,300 mAh Li-Ion battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer. Other highlights of the Xperia UL include: Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, NFC (Near Field Communication), DLNA, GSP with A-GPS and microUSB.
