Fido plans to expand its portfolio of Android smartphones with Sony’s Xperia U. We already reported a few days ago that Fido was also expected to launch the LG Optimus L7 in the following weeks.

The guys over at MobileSyrup have been recently tipped off on the upcoming availability of the Xperia U at Fido, though no release dates or pricing options have been unveiled yet.

Sony Xperia U has already been launched in Hong Kong and Taiwan for $320 USD (€245) and 335 USD (€260), respectively. We should expect Fido to release the Xperia for around the same no-term price.

Although the smartphone comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform out of the box, Sony assured customers that Xperia U would receive an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade sometime in Q2 2012.
