The phone will arrive in the carrier’s stores tomorrow

Starting today, users on Three UK’s network can head over to the carrier’s website to purchase Sony’s new Xperia U handset.

The new device was launched on the wireless carrier’s website at £15 a month on the Essential Internet 100 plan, and at £20 a month on the Essential Internet 500 plan.

Moreover, the operator added the device to its Pay As You Go offer as well, with a price tag of £179.99 ($285 / 223 Euro) attached to it.

“All in One 15 costs £15 and gives 30-day access to all-you-can-eat data along with 300 any-network minutes and 3,000 texts. Or All in One 25 costs £25 and offers 500 minutes, 3,000 texts and all-you-can-eat data for a 30-day period,” Three UK explains.

Put up for acquisition online today, the handset is expected in stores as soon as tomorrow, the wireless carrier also confirmed.

“We’re confident that this stylish and affordable smartphone will appeal to fashionistas who can customise the colour and look of the Sony Xperia U to their mood or outfit,” Sylvia Chind, head of handsets at Three said.

“With the latest technology also built in, and on Three’s fast network, this phone really does have it all.”

The new mobile phone arrives with a 3.5” FWVGA Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine, while packing a fast 1GHz dual-core application processor inside.

On the back, it features a 5-megapixel photo snapper with support for HD video recording, and with 1.5 second fast image capture.

Xperia U features 4GB of internal memory, expandable through microSD memory cards. It offers support for 3G networks, GPS receiver, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and a battery that can deliver up to 336 minutes of talk time, or up to 472 hours in stand-by.

Running under Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system (an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich should arrive soon), the new device also comes with color-matching illumination strips and with changeable color caps.
