If you are the owner of such a tablet, you better check your device

It’s a good day to be holding on to a Sony Xperia Tablet Z today. Even as the device maker just rolled out its newest tablet on the grounds at IFA 2014, in the form of the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Sony hasn’t forgotten about its older products.

Today the company announced via Twitter that it was rolling out the Android 4.4.4 update for its first Xperia Tablet which was launched in 2013 at MWC in Barcelona.

The update is currently available over-the-air (OTA) but also via PC Companion and Bridge for Mac applications.

I don’t have the detailed changelog to show you, for the time being, but Sony notes the new build is mainly about bug fixes and battery improvements. Wi-Fi and email-related environments stability were also thrown into the mix.

As for the bug fixes, Sony is probably referring to the OpenSSL security improvements that are an integral part of Android 4.4.4.

If you haven’t received a notification on your tablet just yet, don’t despair. It’s natural, as the new build will arrive in phases, so it might hit different owners and different times.

Sony is launching the new build for a bunch of its smartphones too, including the Xperia Z, ZL and ZR. Happy updating!
