Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile has started to roll out a new software update for the owners of Xperia TX handsets out there, in the form of firmware version 9.2.A.1.199, it seems.

The company hasn’t provided an official announcement on the new software release as of now, but users have already started seeing it arriving on their smartphones, and they are claiming successful installs.

According to a thread on the XDA-Developers Forum, the new firmware release is available for download for Sony Xperia TX LT29i handsets out there and will arrive over-the-air.

The software refresh is said to be 8.3MB in size, which means that it is only a small update, and that it will bring along only a set of minor changes to the device.

According to XperiaBlog, however, although the user who provided the screenshots attached to this post claims to have downloaded the update OTA, it does not show up on the device when checking the customization number.

Moreover, the news site claims that there is a chance that Sony has started pushing the firmware out by mistake, which means that no more users will get a taste of it in the immediate future.

However, the same 9.2.A.1.199 firmware build has been certified not long ago for Sony’s Xperia T and Xperia V devices, and it might soon receive the necessary approvals for the Xperia TX as well.

Compared to the previously available software version 9.2.A.0.295, the new update should bring along a nice range of enhancements and fixes to all supported devices.

Said 9.2.A.0.295 build number is based on Google’s Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system, and the same OS flavor should be featured inside the newer firmware release as well.

Sony has started to deliver the Android 4.3 upgrade to Xperia TX (and for Xperia T and V) about a month ago, promising a variety of performance improvements, updated Sony native applications, security enhancements, and other new features too.

Moving forth, the company is expected to make the Android 4.4 KitKat OS version available for at least some of these devices, though no official confirmation on the matter has been provided as of now.

Chances are that the new software version 9.2.A.1.199 was pushed out not only with fixes and tune-ups, but also in preparation for the KitKat release, which might start arriving as soon as the next month, should previous reports on the matter pan out. Stay tuned for more on this.
