Sony has just announced that its mid-range phablets, Xperia T2 Ultra and its dual-SIM sibling, will be available in Singapore beginning May 1. The smartphones should hit shelves at Sony Stores and Sony Centres, but they will also be released at all three major carriers in the country.

According to UnleashThePhones, the Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia T2 Ultra dual can be purchased for S$598 ($475 / €345) and S$548 ($435 / €315), respectively. Customers will be able to choose from two color options: black and white.

As you may have already noticed, the dual-SIM version of Xperia T2 Ultra is cheaper in Singapore than the single-SIM model, which is unusual.

However, given the popularity of dual-SIM smartphones in emerging markets such as Singapore, perhaps Sony wants to boost Xperia T2 Ultra sales by offering a better price on the dual-SIM version.

Keep in mind though that if you grab the dual-SIM version of Xperia T2 Ultra, you will not be able to take advantage of LTE data speeds. This is probably another reason that Sony priced the two phones differently.

Customers who need LTE support may want to pick the much more expensive single-SIM Xperia T2 Ultra, instead of the dual-SIM model. Apart from that, there are no differences between the two phablets.

Both smartphones ship with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, but an Android 4.4.2 KitKat upgrade will be available later this month.

On the inside, the Xperia T2 Ultra has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset that accommodates a 1.4GHz quad-core processor and an Adreno 305 graphics processing unit.

The phablet also packs 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory, but Sony has also included a microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Besides the decent enough CPU, another of Xperia T2 Ultra’s strong points would be the large 6-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that features HD (720p) resolution, as well as TRILUMINOUS and Mobile Bravia Engine 2 technologies.

On the back, the mid-range Android smartphone boasts an impressive 13-megapixel photo snapper that features autofocus, LED flash, image stabilization, HDR and full HD (1080p) video recording. There’s also a 1.1-megapixel camera in the front, which is perfectly suited for video calls.

Sony Xperia T2 Ultra is powered by a non-removable 3000 mAh battery, which should provide up to 1050 hours of standby time or up to 14 hours of talk time (up to 1 day in 3G mode).
