Bad news for Sony fans in the UK who are still awaiting for the Japanese company to bring its mid-range phablet Xperia T2 Ultra on the market, as the device may not arrive next month.

Initially slated for a late April release in the UK, Sony Xperia T2 Ultra is likely to see strong demand due to its affordable price and excellent features.

However, it appears that the device may be the victim of its own success, as at least one UK-based retailer has announced its customers that Sony will not be launching the SIM-free version of the Xperia T2 Ultra next month.

Here is online retailer Handtec’s statement regarding Sony Xperia T2 Ultra’s availability in the UK:

“Sony have decided not to release the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra SIM free in the UK. We have been informed by Sony Distribution to remove the product from our online store. It was intended to be released around end of April 2014. The device was going to be on sale for around £310.00 inc vat. Handtec only sell the SIM free version we have no information on network stock.”

Even so, Sony fans still have a slight chance of getting the Xperia T2 Ultra next month, as other retailers in the UK still take pre-orders for the phablet.

Both Clove and Carphone Warehouse claim that the Xperia T2 Ultra will arrive in late April, but it’s unclear whether or not they will indeed sell the smartphone beginning next month.

The only thing we can do now is wait and hope for the best. Perhaps Clove and Carphone Warehouse were able to secure their own Xperia T2 Ultra shipments before Sony took the decision to stop supplying the SIM-free version in the UK.

It’s also possible that due to stock shortages, Sony will only allow a few UK retailers to sell the Xperia T2 Ultra, and Clove and Carphone Warehouse may be among them. Either way, the only thing we can do is wait and see.

Sony Xperia T2 Ultra is a mid-range phablet that boasts a huge 6-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution, along with Sony’s TRILUMINOUS and Mobile Bravia Engine 2 technologies.

The smartphone will ship with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, but an Android 4.4.2 KitKat upgrade will be available as well.

For the time being, Sony Xperia T2 Ultra is priced at £310 (€370 / $510) outright at most online retailers, but the amount is subject to change.
