The firmware has been recently certified by Bluetooth SIG

More good news for non-Xperia Z owners, as the Lollipop firmware is slowly making its way to additional smartphones. We reported earlier this month that a new Lollipop update for Xperia C3 has been approved by Bluetooth SIG and is expected to be released soon.

Now, another Lollipop firmware for a non-Xperia Z smartphone, the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra, has been spotted at Bluetooth SIG, XperiaBlog reports.

According to the listing, the “Tianchi Update to L” (design model number Yukon 1.2) has been approved at Bluetooth SIG recently.

The new version hasn't received a release date yet, but since it was approved on March 21, we expect Sony to make an official announcement very soon.

Unfortunately, pinpointing a release date for Android 5.0 Lollipop update for an Xperia smartphone is a bit hard because Sony asks for approval even before the new firmware has been tested thoroughly by customers.

Basically, this means that if Sony's engineers find one or more bugs that need to be fixed, then the new firmware won't be released and another one will be listed at Bluetooth SIG for approval.

Sony needs to be clearer about Android 5.0 Lollipop for its smartphones

So here is hoping that this Android 5.0 Lollipop update will be bug-free, so Sony can release it sooner rather than later. The Xperia T2 Ultra is the second non-Xperia Z device rumored to receive Android 5.0 Lollipop, after Sony Xperia C3.

In the same piece of news, Sony initially announced that non-Xperia Z smartphones wouldn't be getting the Android 5.0 Lollipop update.

However, the Japanese company backtracked on its initial statement, which is why we've seen these new Lollipop pieces of firmware for non-Xperia Z handsets listed at Bluetooth SIG.

We expect Sony's future statements regarding Android 5.0 Lollipop to be clearer when it comes to non-Xperia Z devices.
