Bad news for Xperia SP owners, as Sony has just confirmed that their smartphone will not receive an Android 4.4 KitKat update as expected.

Although the smartphone has been listed on Sony’s support site with KitKat upgrade still “under investigation,” we thought that the Japanese company would eventually be able to bring the latest version of Android on Xperia SP.

Unfortunately, according to XperiaBlog, Sony Mobile France has confirmed for one of the major French blog sites, FrAndroid, that Android 4.4 KitKat will not arrive on the Xperia SP.

Apparently, FrAndroid forum members can ask Sony Mobile questions every Tuesday, which are often replied in real time. One of the company’s official stated back in early March that more information regarding the Android 4.4 KitKat update for Xperia SP would be available later on.

Today, the Sony Mobile France team has confirmed that Android 4.4 KitKat update won’t be officially available for the Xperia SP.

There’s still a slight chance that the information may not be accurate, as the “under investigation” tag from Sony’s support site hasn’t been removed, so until the company comes forward with an official statement, Xperia SP owners can still hope.

We will keep an eye out for any additional details on Android 4.4 KitKat update for the Xperia SP, so stay tuned for more info.

Update: As one of our reader pointed out, Sony Mobile is currently investigating the possibility of releasing Android 4.4 KitKat for Xperia SP, so not all is lost yet. More details here.
