Sony is expected to make its latest Android-based smartphones available for purchase in a wide range of markets around the world during the ongoing year, and has just unveiled some more info on Xperia S‘ arrival in Australia.

Apparently, mobile phone users in the country will be able to get a taste of this mobile phone as soon as this autumn, although a specific release date has not been made official as of yet.

Sony Ericsson Australia’s Chief Marketing Officer, Steve Walker, has reportedly unveiled plans to have the device available for purchase this fall.

One certain thing is that it seems a long way until the smartphone hits the shelves in the country.

The Xperia S smartphone was unveiled to the world in January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and was already confirmed for a series of markets for the first half of this year.

This is the first dual-core smartphone launched in the Xperia family, and sports a highly appealing outer design (at least enthusiasts will consider it so).

The specification list of this mobile phone is also impressive, starting with the large 4.3-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a 1280×720 342ppi (HD) resolution (a Reality Display).

The smartphone also includes a 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8260 Dual-Core application processor inside, along with 1GB of RAM and 32GB of Internal Storage.

The Sony Xperia S comes to the market with a 12-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for full HD video recording, complemented by a 1.3 front camera for making video calls.

The specifications list of the new device also shows that it arrives on shelves with Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth, NFC and 3G connectivity capabilities, as well as with Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system (though it is expected to receive 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in the second quarter of the year).
