Sony has finally made the Xperia S available in the UK. After numerous delays, the smartphone can now be purchased via Three.

Customers who are willing to commit to a long-term contract can grab this one for free on a 24-month £30 tariff. Obviously, there are other contract options as well.

However, those who prefer to purchase the Xperia S on PAYG (pay as you go) can do so for only £369.99 (580 US dollars or 440 Euro), which is £30 cheaper than O2’s price tag. The latter may launch the Sony Xperia S within the next few days as well.

For the time being, the handset is only available at Three UK retail locations, but it will soon be listed on the carrier’s online store.

Sony Xperia S is already available in some countries, such as Australia and Singapore, but the smartphone is still far from being available worldwide.

The Japanese company officially introduced the handset on the market in Barcelona, Spain, last week. In addition, Sony launched two new Xperia NXT series smartphones at the Mobile World Congress 2012, the Xperia U and Xperia P.

Currently, the Xperia S is Sony’s Android flagship smartphone, but rumor has it that the company plans to release a super-phone sometime this summer.

To recap, Sony Xperia S comes with a hyper-vibrant 4.3-inch LED-backlit LCD capacitive touchscreen which is based on the company’s Mobile Bravia Engine technology. The screen features scratch-resistant glass and supports 720 x 1280 pixels resolution.

Even though the smartphone is shipped with Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system on board, Sony already confirmed it would deploy an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade in Q2 2012.

Hardware-wise, the Xperia S is equipped with a powerful 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 32GB of internal memory, 1GB of RAM, as well as an impressive 12-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.
