Bad news for Android enthusiasts who were waiting for the Sony Xperia S to hit shelves in the UK, as the smartphone has just been delayed.

The smartphone was initially expected to arrive in stores on January 30, but UK-based retailer Play.com moved release date of the Xperia S to February 13.

Those who want to be among the first to own this masterpiece can pre-order the Xperia S from Play.com for £449.99 (710 USD or 535 EUR) outright.

Although the retailer’s site now says that the phone is due for release on February 13, it won’t come as a surprise if Play.com delays the phone again.

Sony Xperia S is one of the first smartphones to bear the Sony’s brand logo. Unveiled earlier this month at the International Consumer Electronics Show, Xperia S’ release date has yet to be officially revealed by Sony.

The smartphone will be launched with Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board, but Sony promised to deliver an Ice Cream Sandwich update soon after the phone hits shelves.

Xperia S is Sony’s new Android flagship smartphone. The high-end device boasts an impressive 12-megapixel camera in the back, which features autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording capabilities.

There’s also a secondary 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls, as well as all sorts of sensors, such as accelerometer, proximity, compass and gyro.

On the inside, the Xperia S is equipped with a powerful 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, complemented by an Adreno 220 graphics processing unit. The smartphone also packs 32GB of internal memory, as well as 1GB of RAM.

Another strong point of the Xperia S is the astounding 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen (720 x 1280 pixels resolution) featuring Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine and scratch-resistant glass.

The phone’s 1750 mAh Li-Ion battery cannot be replaced and should provide up to 450 hours of standby time or up to 8 hours of talk time.
