Even though UK was thought to be among the first countries to get the Sony Xperia S, it appears that the smartphone was already introduced in Australia and Spain.

However, it won’t take long until the smartphone makes its debut in the UK as well. Several carriers and retailers have already confirmed plans to offer the Xperia S from March.

We already know that customers will be able to grab this one for free on select plans from various mobile operators. Today, the first details on PAYG pricing options have started to surface in the wild.

The folks at CoolSmartphone got their hands on an O2 brochure which confirms that Sony Xperia S will be available for purchase for £400 (630 USD or 480 EUR) on PAYG (pay as you go).

Although the document does not reveal any exact release date, customers are advised to ask in stores for the smartphone’s pay monthly price options.

The Xperia S was unveiled two months ago at the International Consumers Electronics Show (CES), along with AT&T’s Xperia ion.

The smartphone was also showcased last week at the Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona together with the new devices announced by the Japanese company, Xperia U and Xperia P.

The smartphone will be shipped with Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system on board, but Sony confirmed plans to deploy an Ice Cream Sandwich update for Xperia S in the following months.

Sony Xperia S is powered by a dual-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, which is complemented by an Adreno 220 GPU. It also packs 32GB of internal memory 1GB of RAM, but no microSD card slot for memory expansion.

There’s also an impressive 12-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, as well as a secondary 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls.
