Sony’s latest Xperia devices are moving closer and closer to making an official appearance on shelves in the UK.

The Sony Xperia P smartphone is now up for pre-order in the country over at BuyMobilePhones, on various monthly contracts through several wireless carriers.

The handset is expected to become available for purchase on April 24th, yet those who would like to reserve a unit before that can already do so.

The mobile phone was listed up for reservations on pay monthly tariffs with O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone.

Both the black and the silver versions of the device were made available for pre-order, with price tags ranging from £18.50 (approx. 22 Euro/$33) a month.

The phone is cheapest if purchased with an O2 contract. At £18.50 (approx. 22 Euro)/mo, users also receive 200 minutes, unlimited texts and 100MB of data.

There is also the £20.50 (24.5 Euro/$) Orange tariff, which should appear as a better option for those who want more data to eat each month, with the limit set at 500MB and free BT OpenZone WiFi.

The Xperia P arrives on the market with a 4-inch LED backlit LCD capacitive touchscreen (Reality Display) capable of delivering a qHD resolution, along with a dual-core 1GHz application processor (NovaThor U8500 chipset).

The specifications list of this device also includes 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, without the possibility to be expanded through a microSD memory card slot.

The handset also packs an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for HD video recording, and a front camera for making video calls.

Connectivity-wise, the smartphone delivers HDMI, HSDPA 14.4Mbps, HSUPA 5.76Mbps, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS receiver, and a 3.5 Audio Jack.

The mobile phone also features Accelerometer and Compass, along with a battery that can deliver up to 475 hours of standby time, or up to 6 hours of talk time. The smartphone runs Android 2.3, but will receive an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich soon.
