The Xperia M4 Aqua was unveiled back in March during Mobile World Congress 2015 trade fair, and Sony confirmed the smartphone would go on sale sometime this spring.

True to its promise, the Japanese company has just introduced its elegant, mid-range waterproof Xperia M4 Aqua smartphone in the UK.

The handset is now available at Carphone Warehouse, but we have information that Xperia M4 Aqua is on its way to India as well, where it be available unlocked and SIM-free.

However, we can't tell the same thing about the UK version of the smartphone, which is only available with carrier contracts.

Customers in the UK can get the Xperia M4 Aqua for as low as £15.50 ($24) per month with no outright cost. The smartphone will be available in three color options: white, black and coral, but the latter is exclusive to Carphone Warehouse.

For the time being, only the black model is available for purchase, but the other two color options will arrive in the UK sometime next month.

The first mid-range Xperia phone to come with Lollipop

One of the few Sony Xperia smartphones that ships with Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system right out of the box, the M4 Aqua is IP68 certified, which makes it dust and waterproof up to 1.5 meter and 30 minutes.

The handset sports a decent 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution and features scratch-resistant glass.

Hardware-wise, the Xperia M4 Aqua is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor clocked at 1.5GHz, an Adreno 405 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

Furthermore, the smartphone packs 16GB of internal memory, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Another strong point of the waterproof smartphone is the 13-megapixel camera on the back, which features autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording. The Xperia M4 Aqua also features a 5-megapixel camera in the front that can capture HD (720p) video.

The phone's 2,400 mAh battery is non-removable, and has been rated by Sony for up to 680 hours of standby time or up to 13 hours of talk time.
