The single-SIM version of Sony Xperia M2 has just gone on pre-order in the UK, but it will be a long time before those who pre-purchase the device also receive it.

As XperiaBlog points out, the Xperia M2 can now be pre-ordered via Clove UK for only £228 (€275 / $380) off contract, but the first stock is expected to arrive in May.

On the other hand, Amazon UK has priced the mid-range smartphone at £240 (€285 / $385) and claims that the device will go on sale on May 16.

Those who wish an even better deal may want to wait for online retailer Handtec to start taking pre-orders for Sony Xperia M2, as the smartphone has been priced at only £222 (€265 / $365) outright.

The device will be launched in the UK in all the three color options previously announced: black, white and purple. However, all retailers confirm that Xperia M2 will arrive sometime in May, so there’s probably no point in pre-ordering one so early.

There is no dual-SIM variant of Xperia M2 heading to the UK for the moment and it’s unlikely that this version will be available in the country. Sony Xperia M2 dual is aimed at emerging markets where dual-SIM is a mandatory feature for the success of the smartphone.

However, the single-SIM version of Xperia M2 is quite a solid choice for those looking for a mid-range Android smartphone.

The device will ship with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, but Sony has already confirmed that it will offer an Android 4.4.2 KitKat upgrade at some point.

Hardware-wise, Sony Xperia M2 is quite decent, as the phone comes equipped with a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8926 Snapdragon 400 processor inside, along with an Adreno 305 graphics processing unit and 1GB of RAM.

It also packs 8GB of internal memory, but users will be able to further expand storage up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

The Xperia M2 also sports a large 4.8-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display that supports 540 x 960 pixels resolution, which features scratch resistant glass coating for extra protection.

Another strong point of Sony’s mid-range handset is the 8-megapixel rear-facing camera that features autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.

A secondary VGA camera for video calls is included as well, along with a high-capacity 2300 mAh battery that should provide enough juice for the average user.
