Although Sony fans in the United States have been warned by the Japanese company that they shouldn’t expect the latest Xperia devices announced this year to be available in their country anytime soon, at least one of these smartphones is now up for grabs.

The single-SIM version of Xperia M2 is now available for purchase in the United States via Sony Store for only $290 (€210) off contract. The smartphone is available in three color options, XperiaBlog reports, Black, White and Purple.

Potential customers will be pleased to know that Sony has confirmed that Xperia M2 orders will ship beginning June 25, so you can be sure that you will receive your device in just a few days.

Keep in mind though that this is the unlocked version of Xperia M2, but this isn’t surprising, considering that Sony doesn’t usually sell carrier-branded smartphones in the United States through its official webstore, with a few exceptions (Xperia Z1s).

On a side note, Xperia M2 was launched in North America earlier this month, but only Canadian customers were able to get one through Fido and Rogers.

Speaking of which, the Canadian version of Xperia M2 is now available for purchase from the two carriers mentioned earlier for $300 (€205) outright, which is very close to the US price.

Specs-wise, Sony Xperia M2 is a mid-range smartphone. Even though the smartphone will ship in the United States with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box, Sony has already confirmed that a KitKat upgrade will be available for download sometime in July.

Obviously, given the fact that the Xperia M2 sold in the United States is the unlocked version, it will take less time for Android 4.4.2 KitKat to arrive, as the update won’t be pending any carrier’s approval.

When it comes to hardware, the Xperia M2 is equipped with a decent 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, an Adreno 305 graphics processing unit and 1GB of RAM.

The smartphone also sports a 4.8-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display that supports qHD (540 x 960 pixels) resolution, along with an enhanced 8-megapixel rear-facing camera that features autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.

Sony Xperia M2 comes with LTE support, but the Japanese handset maker has included some additional connectivity options as well, such as HSDPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microUSB and GPS with A-GPS.

Last but not least, the smartphone is powered by a 2300 mAh non-removable battery, which should provide up to 600 hours of standby time or up to 13 hours of talk time.
