Before the end of this month, mobile phone users in Canada will be able to purchase a new affordable handset from Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile, none other than the Xperia M2.

The company has already confirmed plans to make the smartphone available in the country and has also said that wireless carriers Rogers and Fido will be adding it to their offerings soon.

“Xperia M2 will be coming to Canada on Rogers and Fido later this month. Xperia M2's sleek design hides a powerful 8MP camera, battery power to last day and night and Sony's innovative suite of smart social camera apps, including Timeshift Burst and Picture Effect,” Sony says on Facebook.

Furthermore, as XperiaBlog notes, the handset might also arrive on shelves in Canada unlocked, through Sony’s own online portal.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the Xperia M2 was made official in February this year, during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The handset comes to the market with a large 4.8-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a qHD (540 x 960 pixels) resolution, as well as with a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 MSM8226 processor with Adreno 305 graphics.

The handset was made official with 1GB of RAM inside, as well as with 8GB of internal memory, paired with a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes.

Moreover, it comes with an 8-megapixel camera on the back, with an Exmor RS sensor, capable of recording videos in full HD resolution, as well as with a VGA front camera for making video calls while on the go.

In terms of connectivity, the Xperia M2 offers support for LTE Bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20; HSPA+; NFC; and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities. Moreover, it was made official with a built-in GPS receiver for navigation purposes.

The new mobile phone is powered by a 2300mAh battery that can offer up to 14 hours and 14 minutes of talk time, or up to 693 hours of standby time. The handset measures 139.6 x 71.1 x 8.6mm and weighs 148 grams.

Those of you interested in the purchase of this smartphone should know that it comes with the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system loaded on top right from the start. However, Sony might release the Android 4.4 KitKat OS to it soon.

Although it has confirmed that Xperia M2 will land in Canada this month, Sony hasn’t provided specific info on when exactly that might happen, nor on the price tag that the phone might feature.
