The update is pushed OTA (over the air), in stages

The first mid-range Xperia smartphone to receive the highly anticipated Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update is Sony Xperia L.

The smartphone was launched on the market back in May with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box.

Although there are other mid-range Xperia smartphones better equipped than the Xperia L, it looks like Sony decided to bring Android 4.2 Jelly Bean to this device at first.

The official changelog of the update contains lots of details regarding the new features and improvements added. Sony Xperia L users eligible for the update will be automatically notified on the latest 15.3.A.0.26 software.

You can also manually check for availability by going to Settings / About phone / Software update / Update. Aside from upgrading the phone's software to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, the update brings the following changes:

- A revamped homescreen experience for handling widgets, apps and shortcuts. With up to 7 desktop panes, widgets that auto-resize and actionable notifications, you have complete flexibility to create the interface you want / need with a few simple touches.

- Application tray sorting is that bit breezier – just press and hold on any app – move, add it to your desktop or create a folder within the tray by dropping it on top of another. We’ve also added a new search function within the application tray that makes it easy to locate your local apps.

- Updated UI and added functionality in the Sony Media apps. For example: Playmemories integration in the album application and Music Unlimited integration in the walkman application.

- Added camera functionalities such as Burst mode that ensures you never will miss a perfect shot again.

Keep in mind the update is pushed OTA (over the air) in stages, so not all Sony Xperia L devices might receive it at the same time.
