Although Sony Xperia ion was initially confirmed for AT&T, the smartphone was recently launched on the market in Taiwan.

While AT&T is rumored to get the Xperia ion sometime in June, another Asian country will receive the smartphone ahead of the US-based carrier, Hong Kong.

In fact reservations for the Sony Xperia ion are now open in Hong Kong, so customers can go ahead and reserve one to make sure they will get it as soon as it goes official.

According to Sony Mobile, the Xperia ion will be available for purchase for a suggested retail price of HK$ 5,198 (670 USD/525 EUR) off-contract.

Unfortunately, the smartphone will be shipped with Android 2.3 Gingerbread out of the box, but Sony promised an Ice Cream Sandwich update would be delivered soon after launch.
