No Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade in sight yet

If we are to believe the latest statements coming from Sony earlier this week, then the Japanese company is readying for a massive Android 5.0 Lollipop for some of its Xperia Z smartphones.

However, apart from the Xperia Z3, which is likely to be the first to receive the Lollipop update since it is Sony's current flagship smartphone, there are no details on which other handsets will get the upgrade this week.

We do know that one non-Xperia device has just started to receive an Android update, which isn't Lollipop though. Android 4.4.4 KitKat is now rolling out to Sony Xperia E3 LTE, but it's not yet available in all countries.

The Xperia E3 LTE is an affordable smartphone that was released on the market back in September 2014 with Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system onboard.

The bad news is that Sony might not offer this version of Android to non-Xperia devices, so Xperia E3 might not be among the smartphones to be updated to Lollipop.

No news on Android 5.0 Lollipop for Xperia E3 yet

Sony has been confusing in its statements regarding Android 5.0 Lollipop for non-Xperia devices, saying that it won't offer the update and then backtracking in its initial statement.

Since the Japanese company is expected to start the Android 5.0 Lollipop rollout sometime this week, we expect more details and possibly an official announcement regarding the situation of non-Xperia devices.

Until then though, those who own the Xperia E3 LTE should check their smartphones for Android 4.4.4 KitKat update, build number 18.5.C.0.19.

The update is about 990MB in size and brings a few new features and improvements, such as full support for theme creator and some visual enhancements.

XDA Forums has reports from Xperia E3 owners coming from Nordic countries, Italy, Greece, Philippines, Australia, India, France and the UK, but the update is likely to go global in the coming days.
