Sony fans in the United States will be pleased to know the Japanese company might launch a new mid-range smartphone in their country, the Xperia C.

The smartphone recently passed FCC (Federal Communications Commission) as Sony C2304, which the codename that Sony uses for its devices in the United States, XperiaBlog reports.

It's unclear if the smartphone will keep its dual-SIM capability or Sony will launch a single-SIM version in the United States.

For those unaware, Sony Xperia C is equipped with a quad-core MediaTel processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, a PowerVR SGX544 graphics processing unit and 1GB of RAM.

Furthermore, the handset sports a large 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 540 x 960 pixels resolution and 220ppi (pixel density).

It also offers HSPA+ (42Mbps) support and an enhanced 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.

The Xperia C is powered by Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box and the bad news is Sony did not include it among the first wave of smartphones to receive Android 4.3 upgrade in December.

Obviously, this doesn't mean Sony will not offer another major update for Xperia C in the future, just that the next upgrade won't come in the next several weeks.

Other highlights of the Xperia C include: 4GB of internal memory, VGA front-facing camera for video calls, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB), FM Radio, built-in GPS and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity.

Unfortunately, there's not telling if the Xperia C will actually make it to the United States, but if it will we can expect it to be available for purchase via Sony Online store for no more than $350 (€260).

We will keep an eye out for more details on Sony Xperia C's release and price tag, so stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
