Earlier this year, Sony Mobile and Japanese wireless carrier NTT DoCoMo officially announced a new Android-based handset, in the form of Xperia A2 (SO-04F), which is now expected to arrive in the country on June 19.

The phone was not given an official release date at launch, but it has been already listed on the wireless carrier’s website, where the June 19 date can be seen attached to it at the moment.

Unfortunately, no specific details on the price tag that this mobile phone will feature when released have been provided as of now. However, all the details on the matter will be announced in a bit more than a week.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Xperia A2 was announced with roughly the same hardware specifications as the Xperia Z1 f, which landed on shelves around the world under the name of Xperia Z1 Compact.

However, the new phone sports a matte plastic back cover, while being set to arrive on shelves in colors such as Lavender, Orange, Grey Black, and White, as XperiaBlog notes.

As a refresher, the new Sony Xperia A2 will be released at NTT DoCoMo with a 4.3-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a 720p resolution.

Moreover, the mobile phone is powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8974 chipset with Adreno 330 graphics, which is also paired with 2GB of RAM, thus being capable of offering performance capabilities on par with those of high-end devices available today.

The specs list of Xperia A2 also includes 16GB of internal memory, complemented by a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes.

At the same time, it will be released in Japan with a 20.7-megapixel camera on the back, with Exmor RS sensor, capable of recording videos at least at full HD resolution. A 2.2MP Exmor R front camera was also packed inside the package.

Additionally, the handset was unveiled with IP55/IP58 certification for dust and water resistance, as well as with a 2300mAh battery. It should be powered by Android 4.4 KitKat right out of the box.

All in all, Sony Xperia A2 appears to be only a slightly modified version of Xperia Z1 f, and it might not turn out to be the Xperia Z2 Compact that enthusiasts worldwide are certainly waiting for. However, one such smartphone might be released before the end of this year, provided that previous rumors on the matter pan out.
