The phone might be an Xperia Z1 Compact version, or the Xperia Z2 Compact

Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile has been recently rumored to plan the release of a smaller version of its Xperia Z2 handset, one that would arrive on shelves as Xperia Z2 Compact, and possible new details on the device are now available.

According to a post on Japanese blog ATRPG, the handset has emerged in a Japanese brochure with the Xperia A2 name attached, and with looks similar to those of Xperia Z1 Compact, which suggests that it could be either a tweaked version of this device or the upcoming smaller Xperia Z2.

The smartphone is expected to make an appearance on shelves at wireless carrier NTT Docomo in the not-too-distant future, though there’s no telling whether it might indeed be set to arrive on shelves internationally as Xperia Z2 Compact.

Said brochure also unveils some info on the phone’s possible specs, such as its 4.3-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a 720p resolution. Moreover, the Xperia A2 is said to feature 2GB of RAM, along with 16GB of internal memory, and with a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 processor.

All in all, it seems that we’re rather looking at a new Xperia Z1 Compact variant than at a true Xperia Z2 Compact, as TechRadar suggests. However, with no official confirmation on the matter available as of now, we’ll take the above with a grain of salt.
