So is the Nintendo Wii just a novelty? (it rhymes). Sony officials seem to think so, as Dave Karraker, senior director of corporate communications at Sony Computer Entertainment America said to the Wall Street Journal.
He declared that Sony is very confident that
PlayStation fans will wait as long as they have to, in order to get
a PS3. Karraker explained that if someone buys a Wii, they do it because the Wii is more of a novelty.
So is novelty a bad word? Can
Nintendo feel insulted by this? I looked up the word novelty in the dictionary and found this: "a small mass-produced article, such as a toy or trinket". Does the Nintendo Wii fit this description? I guess soIt's small, it's toy like and it's mass-produced.
Sony is well known for trashing their competition, especially when they entered the handheld console market. Back then, when the PSP was released, both Sony President of Worldwide Studios Phil Harrison and SCEA CEO Jack Thretton said that Nintendo was limiting itself to the traditional "Pokemon-fueled markets" (I guess they were referring to Japan). They are probably swallowing their tongues just about now as the DS has managed to pulverize the PSP in sales in the UK.
So which is you favorite? Sony or Nintendo? If we were to judge which is more powerful as regarding worldwide sales, I don't really know who would be the winner. But still, my money is on Nintendo given the fact that they've started console manufacturing waaay before Sony. Remember the SNES?
