Jared Gerritzen, the leader and creative director at Zombie Studios, says that hardware maker Sony is determined to win the console war of the next generation of hardware, which will involve the PlayStation 4 and the unannounced Xbox 720 platform from Microsoft.

He tells Destructoid that, “I think Sony is really in to win this one. I’m good friends with a lot of guys at Microsoft, I’m under their NDA flag, and Microsoft definitely has a different outlook than Sony does.”

He adds, “Sony, like they say ‘Yeah, PlayStation 3 wasn’t what we wanted it to be in comparison in the arms race.’ So now they’re going hard, man. It’s pretty cool, on all points. I think that it will be really interesting to see what Xbox fires back with.”

Gerritzen also believes that the coming E3 2013 event will see both Microsoft and Sony offer a lot of information about their hardware and reveal a number of high-profile titles designed to show off their new features.

Zombie Studios has announced that it is moving its shooter Blacklight: Retribution to the PlayStation 4 when it launches, although it’s yet unclear whether the new game version will also receive new content of features.

During the reveal event that took place in New York, Sony said that it was interested in expanding the audience for the PlayStation 4 by offering indie and free-to-play experiences that had failed to appear on the PS3.

The new home console will introduce more powerful hardware, a focus on game and on video streaming and new sharing options for players and their friend groups.

Sony has not yet revealed the exact design of the PS4 or its price point, but more information will likely arrive before summer is over.

Launch is expected to take place before the very important Christmas shopping season.
