I we all know something about the GPS capability, even if we haven't tested a compliant device. But what no one knows, up until today as a matter of fact, is that we can introduce into a map our holiday photos, for example. How? By using Sony's latest GPS-CS1 GPS device and the time stamp from a Sony digital still camera or camcorder.
"Whether you're traveling to the Seven Wonders of the World, or just wondering where to buy your next house, our new GPS device can track your journey," said David Johns, product manager for digital camera accessories at Sony Electronics. "Adding a geographic context to your digital images helps organize and make use of your photos in entirely new ways."
To arrange your photos geographically you need the little 12-channel GPS unit from Sony, and then import the logged data from the GPS device, using the supplied USB cable, and download the digital images to a computer.
More precisely, the GPS Image Tracker software just synchronizes the photos taken with the digital camera to the latitude, longitude and time readings from the GPS-CS1 device. After the images have been synchronized, you must activate the Picture Motion Browser software which can be found on the cameras that aren't yet available, as they will be launched in August, and just view your customized map.
The GPS-CS1 GPS device will be available in August for about $150 at sonystyle.com.
