An anonymous source sent on Sunday to Mobility Today some great information about an uncertain Sony UX ultraportable PC which features some amazing multimedia capabilities.
According to the source, the future Sony Vaio would feature a 4.5 inch touchscreen with a 1024x600 resolution, dual cameras, Bluetooth capability,
and a storage capacity of 30GB. The processor would be a 1.2GHz, the system has a Windows XP Professional platform and a battery that should assure playback for up to 7 hours. All these features come at a price of "merely" $1,799.
Sony confirmed the rumor today, announcing that the company is just launching its latest portable PC - Sony Vaio VGN-UX50 - a great mini-PC with an Intel Centrino 1.06GHz processor running Windows XP and a sensor point security system.
As the unrevealed source informed, the system features a Bluetooth GPS unit, the device becoming a perfect on road companion, two built-in cameras and it takes just five seconds to start up from standby mode. The device has a special designed keyboard, and a 4.5-inch LCD rotating touch panel.
In addition, Sony Vaio weighs just 520 grams, measures 150mm x 95mm x 32mm, and it is actually an innovation brought to Sony's 2002 "Bio U" concept device. The frame is made out of carbon fiber, the main reason for its light weight, but it has a battery which can only run for about 3.5 hours. The user can enhance the battery's life only if it gets it extended up to 7 hours.
The amazing thing about this device is that it can be started, if it is on a stand-by mode, in just 5 seconds, surpassing every competitor available on the market. Furthermore, Sony VGN-UX50 includes a CF card slot, so the user can install a WLAN card to wirelessly access the network.
VAIO UX Micro PC will be available in July for about $1,800 and can be purchased online at www.sonystyle.com.
