Many new kinds of products and technologies were unveiled over the past couple of months, but some products managed to stand out more than others, either through design advantages, performance benefits or special pricing schemes. One of the laptop lines that grabbed a fair bit of attention back in May was the Sony Vaio P, composed of devices with a less than ordinary form factor, among other things. Said PCs were slated to begin shipping toward the end of the ongoing month, but it appears that plans have changed.

The company intended to begin actual shipments on June 25, but it is now reported that customers who placed pre-orders will start receiving their gadgets on June 18. Sony may even have its work cut out for it, considering that, having been described as having a significant performance boost over predecessors, the PCs were likely ordered in high numbers since pre-ordering became possible on June 8.

All the members of the Vaio P series run on an Intel Atom Z530 central processing unit, which has a clock frequency of 1.6GHz and is backed up by 2GB of RAM. Additionally, the mobile machines feature the GMA 500 integrated graphics and 128GB solid state drives. Other specifications include a motion Eye webcam, a digital compass, a built-in accelerometer and a set of quick-access buttons, such as Assist and Web. As for connectivity and I/O, Sony implemented Bluetooth 2.1, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n WiFi and a multi-card reader, among other things.

The Sony Vaio P runs the Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium operating systems and all have batteries that keep them operational for up to 4.5 hours. The only customers that still have to wait any amount of time are those who chose the pink color option, since this version won't be done until next week.
