AMD Danube platform strikes again

Sony has definitely not been idle on the mobile PC market lately. In fact, the company has been quite generous in its unveiling of such things as laptops that can act as WiFi hotspots and various netbooks. Not only that, but its VAIO P even started shipping earlier than originally planned. As these things came and went, however, there was a certain fact that may or may not have stood out, namely that none of the new products used other CPUs besides those from Intel's own stock.

No doubt consumers know that, not long ago, Advanced Micro Devices finally unleashed a mobile CPU platform of its own, ready to start a competition with the Santa Clara giant. Sony appears to have finally decided to give it a go, spawning a pair of laptops that are also part of the VAIO collection. They go by the names of VAIO and are already on sale.

The VAIO EF22FX is the one closer to the higher end market and it is a 17.3-inch notebook whose screen has a native resolution of 1600 x 900. Its configuration is centered around an Athlon II X2 P320, which works at 2.1GHz and is backed up by 4GB of RAM.

The ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 graphics is also present, as is a DVD writer and a hard disk drive with a capacity of 500GB. As for the EE25FX, it has a 15.6-inch display (1366 x 768), 320GB of HDD storage and a Blu-ray drive. All other specifications are identical to those of its sibling.

Both newcomers are already on sale and carry price tags of $650 for the 15.3-inch model and $720 for the 17.3-inch mobile computer. At present, there is no way of knowing what further plans the PC supplier has for the AMD Danube platform.
