Sony has taken the opportunity to refresh its VAIO Flip line at CES 2014, adding an 11-incher to its already existing 13-, 14- and 15-inch models. And a month later after introducing the hybrid, the product is up for purchase in the US.

The PC maker was actually aiming to provide an alternative for customers who deemed the latter models too big or too expensive.

The Vaio Flip 11A 2-in-1 continues the tradition set by its predecessors and allows users to switch between tablet and Ultrabook mode by virtue of a hinge system.

The overall design might bring flashbacks of the Flip 15 model, with bulky keys and a pretty thick body overall. Even if Sony has been known to produce some of the sleekest and slim products on the market, the Vaio Flip 11A isn't so ethereal and actually weighs 3 pounds / 1.3 KGs.

For those familiar with the 2-in-1 Lenovo Yoga Pro, the new Sony convertible will offer a pretty similar experience and once you fold keyboard back, you’ll have to make do with a pretty hefty tablet.

The hybrid’s 11-inch IPS screen has a sensible full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution and is equipped with a 2.16GHz Pentium N3520 CPU fitted with 4GB of RAM and 128GB SSD.

But back when it was released, Sony said it would be offering users a chance to upgrade (supposedly up to Core i7).

The convertible will ship with Windows 8.1 out of the box and Sony includes a copy of Adobe Photoshop Elements in the bundle, too. Moreover, there’s an 8MP camera on the back, N-trig digitizer (which allows users to interact with apps like OneNote via the included stylus) and NFC.

Currently, the Vaio Flip 11A is selling in the US for $799.99 / €587, but we’ve noticed the same product up for grabs on Amazon.de too (and a different Intel Celeron N2920 variant also).
